Stephen Gill is sad to announce the passing of his father and founder of M.C. Gill Corporation, Merwyn “M.C.” Gill, on May 30th. M.C. was 102 years old.

Born on July 30, 1910 M.C. was one of the last living pioneers of the plastics industry.

M.C. attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he graduated in 1936 with a degree in Chemistry and another degree in Chemical Engineering in 1937.

At the end of WWII, M.C. did what he’d always wanted to do – start his own business. On September 11, 1945, M.C. opened Peerless Plastics Products, Inc in a rented garage. Years later, in 1951, M.C. successfully landed a large order from the Douglas Aircraft Company. This order placed his little company on the road to success.

M.C., working diligently, led his company for 38 more years while expanding and growing the business by developing new products. His wife Ellen worked as the company accountant until the time of her death in 1989. In 2006 M.C. retired, serving as Chairman Emeritus until his passing.

The company that M.C. founded and led for 45 years is now 67 years old and remains the oldest family owned composites company in the world. The Corporation consists of divisions in Ontario, California, Edgewood, Maryland, Northern Ireland and Biarritz, France as well as the El Monte Headquarters.
